Crews from Croton Fire, Croton-on-Hudson Emergency Medical Services and the Paramedic Fly-Car from Ossining Volunteer Ambulance Corps were dispatched to the scene at Bethea Drive in southern Cortlandt after the report of the accident about 1:33 a.m., according to officials.
As crews were responding, dispatchers from Westchester County Fire Control reported a vehicle hit a tree and rolled over, leaving one person's arm trapped underneath; another occupant had made it out of the car with unspecified injuries.
Car 2082 was first to arrive and confirmed the update.
Engine 119 arrived, and the crew began formulating a rescue plan, while simultaneously stabilizing the car with wood cribbing and stretching a precautionary hose line.
With the arrival of Rescue 18, Engine 119 members used a high-pressure air bag to lift the car off the victim.
Additional members of Engine 119 and the crew of Engine 118 then moved the patient onto a stretcher and transferred him to Croton EMS unit 55B2 for ambulatory care.
As a precaution, Engine 118 members scanned the surrounding woods with a thermal imager to ensure no other victims were involved.
A second ambulance from OVAC was also on the scene.
Croton Fire Chief Matthew T. Mansfield had command, with Car 2082, Car 2083, Engine 118, Engine 119 and Rescue 18 on the scene, along with two dozen Croton Fire Department volunteers.
